I have long been enchanted by clay. Even when I was little I would go
out after a rain and look for fresh clay to make little animals out of.
That love of this magical malleable product of the earth has stayed
with me.
I am fascinated by this world around me. Making these colorful clay
sculptures of many parts gives me a way of expressing what I see. I
often come home from walks, and head straight to the studio to make a
sculptural element that expresses something I saw, or a mood I sensed.
I am very moved by bringing parts together into a whole. We consist of many facets. The world consists of many parts. My sculpture expresses how this can all come together into a cohesive wholeness.
When I work on a sculpture, I let go and let the process take me where it will. I
make the individual pieces and then assemble them on a pole. It is
then that I choose the colors according to how the sculpture speaks to
me. |
